I wanted to address an emergency dental issue (caused by a different practice) and the Sierra Dental staff were so accommodating. They validated my concerns and gave me peace of mind. I had a great experience and plan to switch my primary care to this practice.

Great experience here! The staff were amazing and super friendly. I haven’t had work done in a while due to poor experiences. They got me all the prices up front of my work, helped me with my insurance, and did all my referrals for surgery the same day! Cannot recommend enough!

After a bad experience at my last dentist office, Sierra Dental was recommended to me, and everything has been great so far. Everyone is very kind and attentive. The doctors here are the first dentists I've ever had who actually sat down and explained issues and answers questions about my dental health in a detailed way I could understand. It showed me that they genuinely cared about my experience as their patient, and also that they knew what they were doing. Unlike most other dentists, too, I haven't been pressured to buy care upgrades or add-ons; things have been recommended, of course, but never like a cheap sales pitch. If you need a new dentist, check this office out!

Tooth Removal Surgery in Valencia

A dental extraction is the procedure to remove a tooth from your mouth. A dental extraction is most commonly required if one of your teeth is damaged beyond practical repair. The most common reasons for tooth extractions include:

-Severe tooth decay or infection may make it impossible or too costly to repair a tooth
-Advanced gum disease may required a tooth to be pulled so it doesn’t affect the supporting tissues and bone structures of your mouth
-A tooth may be extracted if it is blocking other teeth from coming in
-During orthodontic work, teeth may need to be extracted to create room for the teeth that are being moved into place
-Wisdom teeth are often extracted either before or after they come in

What To Expect

Your dentist will first administer anesthetic to numb the area and reduce discomfort. During the extraction, you will feel the pressure of the tooth being removed, but will not feel any pain. Typically, the dentist is able to remove your tooth within a matter of minutes.

Immediately after the tooth extraction, a small amount of bleeding is normal and patch of gauze will be placed in the affected area. The area may bleed minimally for the next 24 hours or so and taper off after that. Follow your dentist’s instructions on how often to change the gauze, and what other post-procedure steps to follow.

Common Patient Questions

When is a tooth extraction necessary?

A tooth extraction may be recommended if a tooth is too damaged to be repaired. Common reasons include severe decay, infection, advanced gum disease, or trauma. Extractions may also be necessary to make room for orthodontic treatment, remove impacted teeth, or take out problematic wisdom teeth. Your dentist will always discuss all treatment options before recommending removal.

What should I expect during a tooth extraction?

The dentist will use anesthetic to keep you comfortable. You may feel pressure, but not pain, as the tooth is removed. Most extractions are completed quickly. Understanding the process can make the experience less stressful.

What happens after the procedure?

Some bleeding is normal for the first 24 hours, and you’ll be given instructions on how to care for the area. Following these steps supports faster healing and reduces the chance of complications.

Do you offer same-day tooth extractions?

In many cases, yes. Same-day extractions are possible depending on the situation and availability. This can be reassuring if pain or infection becomes urgent.

How long should I wait till I need a toothache?

Tooth pain is a signal that something isn’t right. Waiting too long can make the problem worse. Seeking care early often means easier treatment and better results.

Is tooth extraction painful?

Tooth extractions are performed with local anesthetic, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. You may feel pressure, but our goal is to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout the visit.

How much pain should I expect after a tooth extraction?

Mild to moderate soreness is normal for a few days after extraction. Most patients manage discomfort well with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication and proper aftercare.

When should tooth pain be considered an emergency requiring extraction?

Severe, persistent pain, swelling, signs of infection, or pain that interferes with eating or sleeping may require urgent evaluation. In some cases, extraction is the fastest way to relieve pain and prevent complications.

How long does it take to heal after a tooth extraction?

Initial healing usually occurs within 7–10 days. Complete healing of the area can take several weeks, depending on the complexity of the extraction and how well aftercare instructions are followed.

What can I do to reduce pain and swelling after an extraction?

Applying an ice pack, resting, avoiding smoking or straws, and following post-extraction instructions closely can help reduce pain, swelling, and speed up recovery.
