Common Patient Questions
What should I do if I have a knocked-out tooth?
If possible, gently rinse the tooth with water and try to place it back into the socket. If that’s not possible, keep it moist in a cup of milk and get to a dentist within 1–2 hours. The sooner you’re treated, the greater the chance of saving the tooth.
What if I lose a filling or crown?
If a filling or crown falls out, the tooth underneath is left vulnerable. Avoid chewing on that side and contact us as soon as possible so we can repair or replace it before further damage occurs.
How do you treat an abscessed tooth?
An abscess is a serious infection that can spread if untreated. Treatment often involves draining the infection and performing root canal therapy to save the tooth. In some cases, extraction may be necessary. Prompt care is essential.
Do you treat children with dental emergencies?
Yes. We provide emergency care for patients of all ages, including children. Whether it’s a knocked-out tooth, injury, or sudden tooth pain, our team is experienced in helping kids feel safe and cared for.
How quickly can I be seen for an emergency?
We offer same-day and next-day appointments whenever possible. In urgent cases, we prioritize patients in pain or with injuries to ensure they’re seen as quickly as possible. We’re open M-TH 9-5 & Sat by Appointment only
What can I do for extreme tooth pain before seeing an emergency dentist?
Until you’re seen, rinse gently with warm salt water, avoid chewing on the painful side, and use over-the-counter pain relievers as directed. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the tooth or gums, as this can cause tissue damage.
Is throbbing tooth pain considered a dental emergency?
Throbbing or pulsating tooth pain is often associated with infection or nerve damage and is considered a dental emergency. Seeking treatment quickly can help relieve pain and reduce the risk of complications.
Will an emergency dental visit help relieve my pain the same day?
In most cases, yes. Emergency dental treatment focuses on stopping pain and addressing the underlying cause. Many patients experience significant pain relief the same day they are treated.
When is the emergency room the right choice for dental pain?
Go to the emergency room if dental pain is accompanied by difficulty breathing, uncontrollable bleeding, facial trauma, high fever, or swelling that affects the eyes, neck, or throat. These symptoms may indicate a medical emergency beyond dental treatment.
Will the ER fix my tooth if I go there for dental pain?
In most cases, no. Emergency rooms usually cannot treat the underlying dental issue. They may prescribe pain medication or antibiotics, but you will still need to see an emergency dentist to fully relieve the pain and fix the problem.
